Yellow: A Pop-up Exhibition
Beigou Village Art Garage

The exhibition Yellow featured collaborative works from Joe Hedges and Jiemei Lin created as part of a month-long artist residency and fellowship from The Brickyard, a resort in Beigou Village at the Great Wall, an hour outside of Beijing China. The show was staged in the garage of the artists’ temporary residence and featured an installation using objects found in and around the village, digital combines (prints with found objects attached) and an artist book showcasing found installations in the village and in areas of Beijing. By finding and fabricating moments presenting surprising relationships between objects, the exhibition explored the material culture of contemporary life in China.

In the shadow of the Great Wall, as in the Hutongs of Beijing, bamboo meets plastic and tradition lingers confidently.

The pop-up exhibition coincided with a performance exploring similar themes.
